Check Peter’s love for the Lord

John 21:15-25 15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” 16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” 17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!” 20 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”) 21 When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?” 22 Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” 23 Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?” 24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true. 25 Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.

The original text of the New Testament of the Bible is in Greek. The word love mentioned here uses two different Greek words, one is agape and the other is phileo. Agape is God’s love for man, it is unconditional, sacrificial love, and it is also man’s love for God in response to God’s love. Phileo is love between brothers. When the Lord Jesus asked Peter, “Do you love me more than these?” The word love used here was agape, and the word love Peter used when he answered was phileo, as he had denied the Lord three times, he felt that his love had not reached agape, so he used phileo, the word love used when the Lord Jesus asked Peter for the second and third time was phileo. Because Peter denied the Lord three times, the Lord Jesus asked him three times if he loved the Lord. When Peter said yes, the Lord Jesus asked him to shepherd the Lord’s sheep.  The Lord also predicted what would happen to him when he was old. Peter was finally martyred for the Lord and was also crucified on the cross. He was crucified on the cross with his head down, he found it unworthy to be crucified head up same as the Lord. When Peter asked the Lord Jesus what would happen to John in the future, the Lord said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”  The Lord said that if he wants John still alive when he comes the second time, what is that to him. John also said that the Lord Jesus did many other things that were not recorded in the Bible. If they were all recorded and written in books, the world would not have room for that. I hope that more people will believe in the Lord because of John’s testimony.
May God bless you and your family. 🙏😀

Jesus appeared to his disciples by the sea of Tiberias

John 21:1-14 1 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee. It happened this way: Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards. When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead.

The Sea of Tiberias mentioned here is the Sea of Galilee. Peter and other six disciples went fishing in a boat, but they did not catch any fish all night. Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore and asked them whether they caught any fish, but they didn’t recognize the Lord Jesus. The Lord Jesus told them to cast the net on the right side of the boat. As a result, they caught 153 large fish. This was a miracle. John was the first one to recognize the Lord Jesus. The Lord Jesus prepared a fire with burning coals on the shore, and there were fish and bread. We were not told where the fish and bread came from. The Lord Jesus prepared breakfast for them. This is the third time Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection from the dead.
May God bless you and your family. 🙏😀

Thomas’ unbelieve

John 20:24-31 24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” 26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” 28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” 30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

When the Lord Jesus appeared to his disciples for the first time after his resurrection, Thomas was not among them. When the other disciples told him that they had seen the Lord, Thomas did not believe, and said: “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” We saw earlier that when the Lord Jesus was crucified,  Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. (John 19:34) Eight days later, the Lord Jesus appeared to the disciples again, and Thomas was among them. This time the appearance was the same as last time, the door was closed. The Lord Jesus said, “Peace be with you.” The Lord Jesus knew everything, he knew the unbelieve of Thomas, and he gave him what he asked for, asked him to see his hands and reach out into his side, and saidBecause you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” The Lord Jesus said here that blessed are those who believe him without seeing him. The Lord Jesus also performed many miracles that John did not record. The purpose of the records is to make people believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Savior, the Son of God. Those who believe in the name of Jesus can receive life, spiritual life, and receive blessing.
May God bless you and your family. 🙏😀

Witness the resurrection of the Lord Jesus

John 20:11-23 11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. 13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” 14 At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. 15 He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”). 17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” 18 Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her. 19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. 21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”

Mary stood crying outside the tomb, she bent over to look into the tomb, and saw two angels, but she didn’t know they were angels, turned around and saw the resurrected Lord Jesus standing there, she didn’t recognize the Lord Jesus, and Jesus later appeared to two disciples, at first they did not recognize him either. When Mary recognized him, the Lord Jesus told her not to take hold of him, and he told her that he had not yet ascended to heaven to see God the Father.
On Sunday night, the doors of the place where the disciples got together were closed, and the Lord Jesus appeared to them, and when he saw them, he said, “Peace be with you!” The disciples were happy when they saw the Lord Jesus, and the Lord Jesus breathed on them to let them receive the Holy Spirit. This is the same as when God created Adam in Genesis.
Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7)
This once again shows the divinity of the Son of God, the Lord Jesus, who can breathe on people to receive the Holy Spirit.
On January 19th, I learned that a former Vietnamese colleague of my wife passed away that morning, she had gallbladder cancer in June last year and was only in her 40s. Recently, I also learned that several people died because of Covid in China at the beginning of the year. On the evening of the 19th, I was thinking about the shortness of life, and I went to the computer to listen to hymns on YouTube, and it was playing a song called “Life is short”. I hope that more people will believe in the Lord sooner the better before they die, and receive the hope of eternal life and the hope of resurrection.
May God bless you and your family! 🙏😀

The burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus

John 19:38-42:38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. 39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. 40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. 41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.
John 20:1-10 1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.

Joseph of Arimathea was a secret disciple because he feared the Jewish leaders. When the Lord Jesus died, he bravely asked Pilate for the body of the Lord Jesus. Nicodemus who earlier had visited Jesus at night also attended the burial of the Lord Jesus. They buried the Lord Jesus in Joseph’s new tomb.
On the first day of the week, which was Sunday, Mary of Magdalene, from whom the Lord Jesus had cast out seven demons, saw the stone removed from the tomb, in those days tomb had an entrance, and a large stone covered the entrance, When she saw that the tomb was empty, she went and told John and Peter. When they came they saw that the strips of linen and the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place as before. John believed it when he saw it. He believed that the Lord Jesus had risen.
He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. (Isaiah 53:9)
Isaiah in the Old Testament prophesied that the Lord Jesus would be buried with a rich man. Joseph was a rich man, and the Lord Jesus buried in his tomb.
For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (Matthew 12:40)
The Lord Jesus himself prophesied that he would be buried in the ground for three days and three nights, and then resurrected.
May God bless you and your family. 🙏😀

Lord Jesus died on the cross

John 19:25-37 25 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. The Death of Jesus 28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. 31 Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. 32 The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. 33 But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water. 35 The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe. 36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken,” 37 and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”

When the Lord Jesus was crucified, his mother and the disciple whom he loved were present, the disciple whom he loved was John, the author of Gospel John. He told his mother that John was his son, and told John that Mary was his mother, from then on, John took Mary into his home.
In order to fulfill the scriptures, the Lord Jesus said that I was thirsty, so they gave him vinegar to drink. After tasting the vinegar, the Lord Jesus said, “It is finished.” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit to God the Father. This fulfilled the prophecy of the Old Testament: They put gall in my food and gave me vinegar for my thirst. (Psalm 69:21) When he said “It is finished.”, he meant that he had accomplished the plan of salvation he came to earth.
At that time, the dead bodies could not be left on the cross on the Sabbath. They wanted to make sure that the crucified were dead, and they broke their legs. They broke the legs of the two criminals who were crucified together with the Lord Jesus, but when they saw that the Lord Jesus had died, he did not break his legs, this fulfilled the prophecy of the Old Testament: he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. (Psalm 34:20). But a soldier pierced his side with a spear, and blood and water came out, which fulfilled the prophecy of the Old Testament: They will look on the one they have pierced.
And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. (Zechariah 12:10)
No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.” (John 10:18)
The Lord Jesus was resurrected three days after his death, he laid down his life and took it up again. Read more

Jesus was crucified

John 19:17-24 17 Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). 18 There they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle. 19 Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: Jesus of Nazareththe King of the Jews. 20 Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. 21 The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.” 22 Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.” 23 When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. 24 “Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.” This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said, “They divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.” So this is what the soldiers did.

According to the Roman custom at that time, the Lord Jesus carried his own cross from the place where he was sentenced to the place where he was crucified, that is, Calvary. The Lord Jesus was crucified with two criminals, one on his left and one on his right. Pilate wrote a title on the sign: “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews” in three languages, Hebrew, Latin and Greek. This title tells why he was crucified.
The soldiers nailed Jesus to the cross, and then divided his clothes into four parts, each person got a part, and his garment was a whole piece, and they cast lots to see who would get it, which fulfilled the prophecy of the Old Testament:
They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.(Psalm 22:18)
The Lord Jesus was crucified on the cross in order to redeem mankind. Hope that more people will turn to God, turn to the Lord Jesus, and receive salvation and eternal life.
May God bless you and your family. 🙏😀

Jesus was sentenced to be crucified

John 19:1-16 1 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. The soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head. They clothed him in a purple robe and went up to him again and again, saying, “Hail, king of the Jews!” And they slapped him in the face. Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, “Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him.” When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, Pilate said to them, “Here is the man!” As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!” But Pilate answered, “You take him and crucify him. As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him.” The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.” When Pilate heard this, he was even more afraid, and he went back inside the palace. “Where do you come from?” he asked Jesus, but Jesus gave him no answer. 10 “Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?” 11 Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.” 12 From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar.” 13 When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge’s seat at a place known as the Stone Pavement (which in Aramaic is Gabbatha). 14 It was the day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about noon. “Here is your king,” Pilate said to the Jews. 15 But they shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!” “Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked. “We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered. 16 Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified.

Pilate knew that Jesus was innocent, but he scourged Jesus. The soldiers also mocked the Lord Jesus, put a crown of thorns and a purple robe on Him.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. But he was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities. Through his punishment we have peace. By his stripes we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5)
The prophet Isaiah had predicted that the Lord Jesus would suffer and be scourged.
The Jews wanted Pilate to crucify Jesus, but Pilate could not find that Jesus was guilty, so he wanted them to crucify him themselves. The Jews said he deserved to die because he claimed to be the Son of God, and they did not believe that he was the Son of God, they wanted to crucify the Son of God. Pilate wanted to release Jesus, but the Jews said that anyone who claimed to be a king betrayed Caesar, so Pilate agreed to crucify Jesus. Pilate could not find out that Jesus was guilty, but because the Jews insisted, he crucified Jesus.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
I hope that more people will believe in Jesus and have eternal life.
May God bless you and your family. 🙏😀

Jesus on trial before Pilate

John 18:33-40 33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” 34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?” 35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?” 36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.” 37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate. Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” 38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. 39 But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release ‘the king of the Jews’?” 40 They shouted back, “No, not him! Give us Barabbas!” Now Barabbas had taken part in an uprising.

Pilate was the Roman governor of Judah. He asked the Lord Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?” In the eyes of the Jews, claiming to be king is to betray the Roman emperor Caesar. When the Lord Jesus said that his kingdom was not of this world, and that his servants would not fight with force, but that he came to bear witness to the truth, and those who belonged to the truth listened to his words and became part of his kingdom, Pilate could not find basis for a charge against him. He wanted to release the Lord Jesus. There was a custom in the Passover to release a person. When Pilate asked the Jews to release Jesus or Barabbas, the Jews said to release Barabbas. Barabbas was a robber, murderers, also engaged in riots. The Jews would rather release a great criminal and crucify the innocent Lord Jesus. The Lord Jesus was crucified on the cross to save the world, hope that more people will come to believe in the Lord.
May God bless you and your family. 🙏😀

Peter denied the Lord three times

John 18:15-27 15 Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard, 16 but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in. 17 “You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too, are you?” she asked Peter. He replied, “I am not.” 18 It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself. 19 Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. 20 “I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret. 21 Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.” 22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded. 23 “If I said something wrong,” Jesus replied, “testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?” 24 Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest. 25 Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself. So they asked him, “You aren’t one of his disciples too, are you?” 26 One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, challenged him, “Didn’t I see you with him in the garden?” 27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.

The Lord Jesus was brought to the courtyard of the high priest, Peter followed the Lord, and so did a disciple. This disciple was John, the author of the Gospel of John. The high priest questioned the Lord Jesus about His disciples and teachings, trying to find out the errors in His teachings. The Lord Jesus often taught people in synagogues and temples, and they could ask the audience. During this time Peter denied the Lord three times before the rooster crowed. Earlier Peter said that he was willing to lay down his life for the Lord, but just as the Lord Jesus predicted, Peter denied the Lord three times. But after the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, Peter turned and finally martyred for the Lord.
So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! 1 Corinthians 10:12
Peter thought he could stand, but he fell. This verse in 1 Corinthians reminds us that those who think they could stand, be careful lest they fall.
May God bless you and your family. 🙏😀

The betrayal and arrest of Jesus

John 18:1-14 1 After Jesus had said this, he went out with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Stream. There was a garden there, and he entered it with his disciples. 2 Judas, who betrayed Jesus, also knew the place, because Jesus and his disciples went there many times to gather together. 3 Judah took a company of soldiers, and the officers of the chief priests and Pharisees came into the garden with lanterns, torches, and weapons. 4 Jesus knew everything that was going to happen to him, so he came out and said to them, “Whom are you looking for?” 5 They answered, “Jesus the Nazarene.” Jesus said, “I am.” Judas, who betrayed him, did the same They stand there. 6 When Jesus said, “I am,” they drew back and fell to the ground. 7 He asked them again, “Whom are you looking for?” They said, “Jesus the Nazarene.” 8 Jesus said, “I told you that I am. If you are looking for me, let these people go! 9 This was to fulfill what Jesus had said before, “I have lost none of those whom you gave me.” 10 Simon Peter had a sword, and he drew it, and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting him off. right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus. 11 Then Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back into its sheath! Shall I not drink the cup that my Father has given me?” 12 Then the soldiers, the commander, and the officers of the Jews took Jesus and bound him. , 13 He brought them to Annas first, because Annas was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year. 14 This Caiaphas was the one who said to the Jews, “It is good for a man to die for the people.”

Here it is said that the Lord Jesus and his disciples entered a garden, which was the Garden of Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives. Judas who betrayed the Lord Jesus, knew this place because the Lord Jesus often gathered here with the disciples. Judas led a company of soldiers and others to arrest the Lord Jesus. in parallel passages, it mentioned that Judas betrayed the Lord with a kiss of the Lord Jesus as a signal. Here we also see that the Lord Jesus said a word, and they drew back and fell to the ground. We see the power of the Lord Jesus. The disciples wanted to use the sword, but the Lord Jesus stopped them. The Lord Jesus could have asked the Father to send many angels, but He did not, because His time had come. The Lord Jesus protected the disciples and asked them to let them go, but he himself was arrested. The Lord Jesus was bound and then brought before Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas who was the high priest that year. Caiaphas had prophesied that it would be beneficial for a man to die for the people, that is, he predicted that the Lord Jesus would die for the people.

Jesus prays for all believers

John 17:20-26 20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. 25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

Last time we talked about the Lord Jesus praying for the apostles and disciples before he left the world. Here the Lord Jesus prays for all the believers so that they may be one. The Lord Jesus talked about the glory that the Father gave him, he has given to the believers. This glory is the presence of God and the presence of the Lord. This glory makes the disciples one as the Father and the Lord Jesus are one. The unity of the believers makes the world know that the Father has sent the Lord Jesus, and that the Father loves the believers as he loves the Lord Jesus. The Heavenly Father loved the Lord Jesus before the creation of the world. Here we see once again that the Lord Jesus existed before the creation of the world. The Trinity God is three separate beings, but they are one. The Lord Jesus said that He and the Father are one. They are not the same beings, but they are united in one.
May God bless you and your family. 🙏😀
