“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. (Matthew 13:44)
From the study of the previous parables, we know that the man represents Lord Jesus, the field represents the world. What does treasure mean? Some people think that the treasure is God or Lord Jesus, but the treasure is hidden in the field, saying that God or Lord Jesus is hidden in the world, it doesn’t sound right. The treasure represents human being. Everyone is created by God, everyone is precious in the eyes of God. Lord Jesus is willing to sell everything to buy the field. In order to redeem mankind, Lord Jesus died on the cross, he gave up his life, shed his precious blood, and redeemed us from the world with His precious blood.
Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, (Exodus 19:5)
Here we see that Israel, the people of God is God’s treasured possession, This is what God said to Israel. If they obey God fully and keep His covenant, then they are God’s treasured possession.
Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2)
In order to obtain the treasure, Lord Jesus was willing to sell everything and even gave up His life. For the joy set before Him and for redeeming mankind, he was willing to endure the suffering of the cross.
In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. (Luke 15:10)
Here we see that when a sinner repents, the angels of God will rejoice for him, and the heaven will rejoice for him. There are many treasures in the field, every time Lord Jesus finds a treasure, he will rejoice, and there will also be joy in heaven. Lord Jesus would like to find every treasure, would like everyone come to Him, become a part of His body, a member of His church, become His disciple.
