Mark 12 (41-44) 41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
Here we see that many rich people put in large amounts of money, and this poor widow puts in two very small copper coins. In the eyes of the ordinary people, the rich put in much more than the poor widow. But Lord Jesus knows everything. He knows that although the rich put in large amount of money, they only put in a small portion of what they have. Although the poor widow put in two small copper coins, out of her poverty, she put in everything. What is surprising is that Lord Jesus said, “this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others“, that is to say, this poor widow puts in more than the total of all the others.
If we feel poor, weak, and what we offer to the Lord is little, but we have done our best, in the eyes of the Lord, it is not little, the Lord is pleased with the Widow’s mite. If we feel that we offer a lot to the Lord, not to puff up, not to look down on those who give little like this poor widow, because the Lord has given us much more than them. We cannot underestimate the widow’s mite. The Lord can multiply the widow’s mite. In John 6:1-15, we see that Lord Jesus multiplied five loaves and two fishes of a boy to feed five thousand people.
The offering to the Lord here is not just money, but also our time and small things we do in love. For example, sharing a cake we make with the hungry, and pray for those when you have no other way to relieve their suffering. Matthew 10:42 “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.” The little things we do for the Lord will be rewarded by the Lord. Thank and praise the Lord. May God bless each of you.
