John 8:31-36 31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you hold to my teaching, then you are truly My disciples; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?” 34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 Now the slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.”
The Lord Jesus said to the Jews who believed in him, “If you hold to my teaching, then you are truly My disciples” Here we see that believe alone is not enough. If one holds to the Lord’s teaching, obey his words, then he is truly the disciples of the Lord, he will know the truth, and the truth will set him free. After the Jews heard this and said, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been enslaved to anyone.” Abraham was the ancestor of the Jews and the father of faith. The Jews understood freedom from the flesh. At that time, those who were slaves had no freedom, The Lord Jesus here is talking about the spiritual freedom, that is, to free from sin, from the bondage of sin, the power of sin, and the guilt of sin. The Lord Jesus said: “Truly, truly I say to you: all who sin are the slaves of sin.” When the Lord Jesus wanted to emphasize the important truth, he said, “Truly, truly I say to you,” everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin, When a person confesses his sins, repents, and turns to the Lord, the Lord forgives his sins, he is a new creation, free from the bondage of sin, and the Son of God sets him free, he is truly free, and he belongs to the house of God, he remains in the house of God forever.
that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. (Romans 8:21)
Now the creation is under bondage to decay. When the Lord Jesus returns, he will reign on the earth for a thousand years, the world will be at peace, and the creation will be brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.
