26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.” (Mark 4:26-29)
This parable is similar to the parable of the sower. The seed represents the word of God, and the ground represents the heart of man. The word of God is sown in people’s hearts, and the seed sprouts and grows. The sower doesn’t know how, but it grows naturally until it matures.
I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.(1 Corinthians 3:6)
Here Paul said that he planted, he sowed, he preached the word of God, and Apollo watered, but God makes it grow spiritually.
He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. (Luke 10:2)
Here Lord Jesus said that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. The harvest here refers to the harvest of the people, that is, many people have not yet heard the gospel, have not yet believed in the Lord, and need more workers to preach the gospel to them. Pray to the Lord to send more workers to the harvest field, to gather the harvest.
14 I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15 Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, “Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” 16 So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.(Revelation 14:14-16)
Here the son of man is Lord Jesus. At the end of the age, when the harvest is ready, when Lord Jesus returns, he will harvest the earth with a sickle and gather the harvest.
